COMMUNITY FRIDGE PROJECT

Lets work together to increase food access

What is a community fridge?

  •  The main aim of a community fridge is to reduce food insecurity while also mitigating food waste. We have a take what you need, leave what you can policy. Volunteers run the program and all food is free with no questions asked.

My good friend Sue Peterson along with Ron Rea, owner of the Office Shop and myself have put together a Free Fridge for our community. The Office Shop in downtown Calumet, is where you can find our community fridge. Vendors from the Calumet Farmers Market donate what they can after the end of each Saturday market. Our volunteers (and fellow fridge co-creator Sue and her husband Lee) will pick up the produce and deliver to The Office Shop every Saturday starting in Mid-June. The Office Shop is open Saturdays until 4pm and Monday-Friday 7:30-5pm. Closed on Sundays. The Office Shop already has a food pantry running so please stop in there if you are in need or if you would like to donate shelf stable goods or make a monetary donation to purchase more food.

Please email us if you would like more information or if you would be interested in donating to the fridge. Our hope is that we will have fridges in all of our surrounding communities.
