HOW IT WORKS

From mid June through mid October (16 weeks), your choice of produce share (full, half and specialty) is provided to you every Wednesday. The produce in the share depends on what is in season that week.

Shares can be picked up at a members house in Houghton or on our farm in Calumet.

CSA SIGN UP

We open up membership to our previous members first. After two weeks, if we still have shares available, we extend membership to new members. Please wait to complete the signup form until you have received an email letting you know shares are available.

Our final membership count is based on those who have paid. Signing up will hold your spot, but payment will secure your membership. We accept cash or checks made out to North Harvest CSA. You can also now pay your invoice with credit card or ACH payment. If we do not receive your payment by your invoices due date, we will have to release your spot to the next person in line.

Please review our CSA membership agreement at the bottom of the page before signing up.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN YOUR FULL OR HALF PRODUCE SHARE

This list gives you a sense of what types of produce you’ll receive each season. Each week’s box of fresh produce is based on what is currently in season and how successful each crop has been. Because of this, you will not see every item every week.

SPECIALTY PRODUCE SHARE

This share is geared more for those who love to cook and are curious to try new or less common produce. This is smaller share of 3 items per week and makes a great addition to a full or half produce share, or can be purchased as a stand alone share. The items we will include in this share are the more unique and in demand products we grow. You can expect to see dandelion greens, bok choy, baby beets, broccolini, and purslane in the early season. Mid season we will include currants, raspberries, blueberries, radicchio, fennel, paste tomatoes, eggplant, shishito peppers, Italian cone peppers, specialty cucumbers, edible flowers, snow peas and other unique or popular items. Late season will have specialty radish, celery, pie pumpkins and fingerling potatoes. Like the other shares, what goes into this share each week will depend on availability and crop success. Sometimes an item will be more of something already in the share, or you receive an item a week before the rest of the CSA. This share works the same as the others, pick up at the farm or Houghton location on Wednesdays for 14 weeks. Please note we have changed the number of weeks to 14. Last year we realized the first two weeks do not have much in the way of unique items for us to share.

FLOWER SHARE

This season we will be offering a flower share as an add on to your vegetable share. Or, you can sign up for just a flower share. This share consists of 10 weeks of beautiful bouquets created by Jake. Each week he will choose from a variety of flowers and pick them at their peak of beauty to arrange into a bouquet that will be sure to impress.

Shares start mid-late July (depending on the season) and runs 10 weeks through September. Every Wednesday (10 person limit) or Saturday (5 person limit) a weekly flower share is provided to you for pickup on Wednesdays at the Houghton CSA drop location or at our farm. The Calumet market on Saturdays is another option for flower pick up. The flowers in your share depend on what is in season that week.

FLOWERS YOU CAN EXPECT TO SEE

This list is not exhaustive and will depend upon both weather and crop success. Also, you will not see every flower every week.

  • Sunflowers
  • Snap Dragons
  • Cosmos
  • Phlox
  • Asters
  • Zinnias
  • Dahlia
  • Wildflowers + filler leaves

Share cost is $125.00 plus MI sales tax for 10 weeks. Upfront payment for the flower share is due just like our vegetable share.

Our membership count is based on those who have paid. If you receive an email letting you know shares are still available, filling out the sign up form will only hold a spot in our membership. We will not count you as member until your payment has been received. If we do not receive your payment by the due date on your invoice, we may have to release your spot to the next person in line.

We have 10 spots available for pick up on Wednesday here at the farm, or at our Houghton pick up location which is located near Econo Foods (address given after sign up) Pick up on Wednesday is from 1pm until evening time at the farm and 2pm until evening time in Houghton.

We have 5 spots available for pick up at the Calumet Farmers Market on Saturdays from 10-2pm.

Produce Subscription

What is a produce subscription?

Our produce subscription include 5 items of produce from our farm for 15 weeks starting at the end of June. Each weeks items will change to reflect what is in season and at the peak of ripeness. Lots of greens, radishes and other spring crops for the first 6-7 weeks. Once the peak of summer hits in August you will see tomatoes, cucumbers, squash and other summer favorites. Please note this is not a customizable subscription and you will not be able to choose what goes in your share.

Choose from 4 pick up locations. Our farm on Tuesdays, the Houghton Farmers Market on Tuesday, the Hancock Farmers Market on Thursdays or the Calumet Farmers Market on Saturdays. Click on the order your subscription to visit our store and find out more.

Please note a subscription is not part of our CSA, it is a different product.

CSA AGREEMENT-ALL MEMBERS PLEASE READ

By purchasing a share with us you automatically agree to our CSA policy. Community supported agriculture is made up of people who have purchased a share from a local farm early in the season. By purchasing a share with us early in the season you are providing us with the capital to buy seeds, fertilizer, tools, row cover, irrigation and other supplies needed to run a successful farm and have a productive growing season.

A CSA is an excellent way for community members to become personally involved and invested in their local farm and food systems. We strive to meet our goals for crop variety and quantity, but many factors are out of our control and as a CSA member you share in the abundance and failure of crops. Some weeks may be lighter then hoped for but that is a risk the member agrees to take. Refunds will not be given for any reason. Together, we share in the excitement of growing in the Keweenaw.

From mid June through mid October (16 weeks), a weekly produce share is provided to you for pick up. The produce in the share depends on what is in season that week. We grow, maintain, harvest and package your share for you, and deliver it to a drop point in Houghton or you can pick up from the farm. Once  the share is ready it is your responsibility to pick it up in a timely fashion. If you are unable to pick your share up it is your responsibility to have someone collect it for you or to let us know you won’t be able to get it that week. If you will be out of town, please let us know a week in advance and your options will be to either cancel your share for that week or organize another person to pick up your share. If someone else is going to pick your share up for you, it is your responsibility to make sure they know the correct location and time for pick up. Please make sure they know the exact name to look for on the share. We do not make up missed shares and forgotten shares will not be replaced. As a new member you agree to the $25.00 new membership fee.

It is your responsibility to keep the boxes provided for you in good, clean order and to bring the empty box back to the drop point when you pick up your new share. You can also bring your own box with you to the drop point, transfer the goods and leave our box behind. Please keep in mind the Houghton drop point is not refrigerated. The sooner you can get your share home the better. Please keep in mind we do NOT wash the produce for you. We do rinse some soil off, but it is your responsibility to thoroughly wash all produce before consumption. To keep costs down we bag as little as possible and often put multiple things in one bag or have items loose in the box. It is a good practice to take everything out of the bag/box when you bring it home, rinse and dry the produce then store as you desire.

We do not use chemical insecticides so you will find a few bugs from time to time. We do try our best to keep this to a minimum, but they often hide in the nooks and crannies of lettuce, cabbage and other vegetables. A good way to check for bugs is to submerge produce in cool water for five minutes, shwoosh produce around in the water and then generally any insects will float to the surface.
