Interested In Farm Work?

FARM HAND 15-20 HRS/WEEK. $15.00/Hr

Here is a look at what we expect from a farm hand. Our ideal candidates have farm experience, but we will have training as needed. We are looking for someone with the desire to work outside in a variety of weather conditions to help bring their community fresh, healthy produce. This is a very physical job so please make sure you are able to work up to 5 hours a shift, lift up to 40 pounds and constantly be moving. We also value your ideas to make our farm more efficient and viable and hope to have many engaging conversations about small scale growing and food access.

Responsibilities throughout the season

  • Stay up to date with Farm Safety Plan/texts (It is of utmost importance to follow all food safety protocols during every shift).
  • Clean harvest bins/equipment, cell trays, pots, coolers
  • Keep working areas tidy (always return tools back to the shed)
  • Able to take direction and execute tasks in a timely fashion.
  • Help water seedlings and keep plants alive
  • Prep beds for planting; add soil amendments with raking and/or tilling, dibbling, and add bed markers
  • Transplant starts
  • Weeding (main chore)
  • Plant maintenance (pruning, trellising)
  • Harvest as needed

Spring Duties

  • Planting, planting, planting (be prepared to spend a lot of time outside, on the ground, and carrying trays – good biomechanics is important)
  • Setting up trellising, insect netting, landscape fabric
  • Pick up rocks from beds
  • Weeding & cultivating beds

Summer Duties

  • Plant crop successions
  • Weeding & cultivating beds
  • Harvest as needed
  • Pruning & trellising
  • Help with packaging orders & prepping for market days
  • Other tasks as they come up

Fall Duties

  • Remove plants in hoop houses.
  • Weeding
  • Harvest as needed
  • Put beds and fields to rest; remove trellising, irrigation, hoops, landscape fabric and insect netting to put away neatly for the winter
  • Plant garlic and take care of other bed prep like lifting dahlia bulbs
