We are excited to announce on April 10th 2023 we were awarded a Young Farmers Grant from the National Young Farmers Coalition & Chipotle. The award of $5,000 will be put towards building a permanent plant nursery that will be attached to our garage. This picture is our old lean to that was made with a car port, plastic and some of Jakes magic to take one thing and turn it into another thing. This has been deconstructed and we will reconstruct with concrete, polycarbonate panels and wood. This new nursery will allow us to grow more plant starts and the raised beds will allow us to plant things like greens, lettuce, onions & radishes early and also keep growing later into the season as this structure will stay up year round. We are very thankful to have received this grant!
We are a client with the Michigan Small Business Development Center. During the summer of 2022 the Michigan SBDC came out to our farm to visit, take photos and do an interview with me. We had a great time sharing what we are doing on the farm and talking about how Daniel Yoder and the Michigan Small Business Development Center has helped Jake and I grow our business. Visit their website www.michigansbdc.org for more client success stories and information on the free services they offer.
We are excited to announce on October 28th 2022 we were awarded the Elevate Small Business Grant through the FHL Bank Indianapolis and Superior National Bank in Hancock MI. The award of $19,650 will be put towards the purchase of commercial kitchen equipment and working capital. Our goal is to build a light processing and aggregation facility that includes cold storage and a commercial kitchen to increase our output of fresh and value added goods. Our facility will be made available to other local producers to work collectively towards the goal of supplying our area with more local food. We have many more facets to our project and a lot of work to do to meet our goal, but this is a wonderful start and we are extremely grateful for this opportunity. We would like to thank FHL Bank Indianapolis, Superior National Bank, Daniel Yoder with the Michigan Small Business Development Center, Rachael Pressley from WUPPDR and Portage Health Foundation for their immense amount of support and help towards achieving this grant.
In May of 2022 we were awarded a grant of $14,000 to put towards on farm cold storage under the U.P. Food as Medicine Cold Storage Grant Program! With the fund we purchased and installed a 8' x 12' x 8' Indoor / Floor CoolBot Walk-In Cooler. We would like to thank the UP Food Exchange, Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress, the Marquette Coop and Rachael Pressley and others for providing this opportunity. The cooler is up and running and ready to use for the 2023 season.
In 2020 we began producing apple cider vinegar for sale. This vinegar comes from a mix of apples that we pick for our property, the Hughes farm and wild apple trees.
We have several options for sale. Plain vinegar sold in 750 ml wine bottles and Thai Chili infused vinegar which we sell in 5 oz bottles. This year we will also offer chive blossom/thyme infused vinegar in 5 oz bottles. All added ingredients are grown on our farm.
You can purchase our vinegar from the farm stand on Tuesdays, or the Main Street Calumet Farmers Market on Saturdays during the growing season.
In 2020 we opened up a produce stand on our farm. Every Tuesday from 3 pm - 6 pm you can visit the stand to shop for fresh vegetables, homemade soap, sourdough breads, farm made vinegar and more. We will be opening the stand back up mid June 2024.

On June 16th 2018, after 11 years of dating, traveling, learning, and growing produce, we decided to get married. We celebrated our wedding here on the farm. My sister Jordan was the officiant, Jake's brother Luke and my other sister Katelyn stood up with us for a ceremony in front of an apple tree. Together with our loved ones, we said our vows, mucked some delicious food and listened to some fantastic musicians. It was a truly beautiful day.
